Kid City
Kid City is the children’s ministry of Christ Church Chicago. It is our heart’s desire to support parents & caregivers in the spiritual nurture of their children by teaching them about Jesus and his gospel. We do this by providing a safe, loving, and fun environment for kids to learn God’s Word and experience His love so that they might worship and serve Him.
Sundays in Kid City
Each Sunday, during the 9 a.m. education hour and the sermon portion of our 10:30 a.m. worship service, children “board” a train line designated for their age group to spend time singing songs, doing crafts, playing games, and learning God’s word from our trained teachers.
If you know you will be visiting us on a Sunday, you’re welcome to pre-register below. This isn’t required, but will help us welcome you when you arrive!
Blue Line | Ages 0–2
The Blue Line Train (nursery for children ages 0–2) is available throughout the duration of the 9:00 and 10:30 ministry hours. Children will learn “big picture” themes using The Big Picture Story Bible as a guide. Each week, toddlers hear a lesson, work on memorizing a Bible verse, and complete a coloring page. As soon as a child turns 3, he/she is welcome to join the Green Line.
Green Line | Ages 3–5
The Green Line Train (3–5 year olds) accepts passengers for the 9 a.m. ministry hour and during the sermon. The 9 a.m. class learns about Jesus through Bible story lessons, crafts, Bible memory, and play. Stories and crafts follow Gail Schoonmaker's The Big Picture Bible Crafts: 101 Simple and Amazing Crafts to Help Teach Children the Bible. During a 3-year cycle, children learn about how the Old Testament anticipates Jesus as savior (1.5 years) and then how Jesus came to save as recorded in the New Testament (1.5 years). The children also learn about our Global Ministry Partners (GMPs) during the 9 a.m. class. During the sermon, children continue to learn about Jesus through curricula that explain who he is, what he's done, and how they can find out more about him. Children are dismissed to this class when the scripture is being read. Parents will pick them up on the lower level.
Red Line | Grades K–2
The Red Line Train (kindergarten through 2nd grade) accepts passengers for the 9 a.m. ministry hour and during the sermon. The 9 a.m. class learns about Jesus through Bible story lessons, Bible memory, and play. The Red and Green Line classes learn the same lessons so that families can discuss them at home together. The children also learn about our Global Ministry Partners (GMPs) during the 9 a.m. class. During the sermon, Red Line will learn about Bible truths through the Big Beliefs! curriculum written by our church. Bible stories coupled with catechism questions help them understand doctrines and memorize them as pegs that assist them as their knowledge of God grows as they do. Children are dismissed to this class when the scripture is being read. Parents will pick them up on the lower level.
Orange Line | Grades 3–5
The Orange Line Train (3rd–5th grade) only accepts passengers during the 9 a.m. ministry hour. Kids of this age ask good questions of the faith and of scripture. The class engages with scripture and seeks to gain an understanding of the Bible before applying it to their lives. For the 2024–2025 ministry year, Orange Line will learn about how the story of Jesus in the Bible is The Biggest Story. The children also learn about our Global Ministry Partners (GMPs) during the 9 a.m. class. At this age, children are dismissed on their own to locate their parents before attending the main service.
Our Safety Procedures
The safety of our children is essential. Our check-in policy ensures that pick-up can only be completed by the same caretaker who checked in the child. There are always two or more volunteers in each classroom. Additionally, background checks have been completed on all adult volunteers. Our children are gifts to our congregation, and they are treated as such.
