Our History
Originally planted in 1998 (as Holy Trinity Church) Christ Church Chicago became an independent church in 2020. After an extensive renovation of our historic building, we officially dedicated the church in 2022.
What has become Christ Church Chicago began as a dream for the city of Chicago. In 1998, the founding leaders were asking God to allow them to be a part of something much larger than themselves. Led by pastors David R. Helm and Jon M. Dennis, God brought together a band of 37 adults to plant a small congregation in Hyde Park. The vision was to see a generative, gospel-centered expository church that could be a catalyst for long-term change in Chicago and beyond.
For 20 years, the Hyde Park congregation met in various spaces through Hyde Park and Kenwood. The church as a whole grew to four congregations on the North, West, South, and Center of the city.
In 2020, as the leadership tables as the church continued to grow, the elders began prayerfully considering planting Holy Trinity Hyde Park as a new congregation called Christ Church Chicago. After much prayer and the provision of God, Christ Church Chicago purchased a new building to grow deeper roots on the South Side of Chicago and across the city.
What followed was an extensive renovation of the historic building: restoration of the decorative plaster and art glass, new auditorium seating, the addition of classrooms and more.
On October 2, 2022, we officially dedicated our new space with Dedication & Celebration services.
