Jesus the Messiah (Family Curriculum)

It has been another week apart from our in-person worship services and programs, but it is my hope and prayer that you feel loved, cared for, and resourced! As in weeks past, I have pulled together resources for your children to do during the live stream and over the following week as you sit in your house and as you walk along the way! This week I’ve added a new curriculum The Gospel Project’s “Jesus the Messiah”, the first lesson of which tells of Jesus’ Early Miracles as seen in Mark 1.

DURING THE LIVE STREAM

3 FAMILY DINNER DEVOTIONALS FROm big beliefs! TO READ THROUGHOUT THE WEEK

PARENT-CHILD ACTIVITIES

  • Discuss the lesson together

  • Where was the synagogue in which Jesus taught? Why did Jesus say He came? Why did Jesus heal the man with leprosy? What do these miracles show about Jesus? Why was Jesus’ preaching more important than His miracles? How can we be like Jesus?

  • Make a First Aid Kit

Give each child a paper bag and encourage him to decorate it with something that reminds him of the Bible story from Jesus’ Early Miracles (Mark 1). Then help him add an assortment of first-aid supplies to his bag. Explain what each item is used for and remind children to ask a grown-up for help anytime someone is hurt. Encourage children to tell others about Jesus’ love whenever they use the first-aid kit. Write John 3:16 on each child’s bag. Help children practice repeating the key passage after you or sing the song linked below.

You can say something like: Jesus cares about people. What makes people special? People are special because God made us in His own image. Sickness and evil mess up God’s image in people, so Jesus came to heal us! We might still get hurt, but we can have forgiveness and life with God forever through Jesus. Whenever you use your first-aid kit to help people who are hurt, you can pray and tell them this good news while a grown-up takes care of the hurt.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR CHILD(REN) TO DO

  • Orange Line: New City Catechism Questions 21-35 “Christ, Redemption, Grace”

  • Play healing tag: Like freeze tag. Everyone starts off frozen and when the “it” kid tags them, they are healed. When they unfreeze, they then try to block the “it” kid from unfreezing other kids.

Jesus healed many people just by a touch or a word. Jesus’ miracles helped people and showed that He is the Son of God. But large crowds gathered around Him and made it hard for Him to keep teaching. So Jesus often snuck away by Himself so He could pray and travel on. He wanted to tell more people about God’s love!
