Kid City: Week One of Advent: The Promise Candle

Week One of Advent: The Promise Candle

Dear Christ Church Families,

This week we enter into a period of anticipation. We look forward to the arrival of the Christ child in reflection. We also yearn for the final coming of Christ, at which time all will be consummated and complete. Marantha!

Your family may already have an advent devotional that you read through. Perhaps a Jesse Tree or something similar to help you intentionally reflect on the days leading up to Christmas. If you do not, we’ve put together a guide for your family to use. If you did not receive one in the mail or at our last in-person service, please contact me and I will email you a copy.

The format and therefore the commitment is the same as with Big Events!. Each week your family will go through 3 devotions:

  1. This Sunday, we will light the (or make a paper) purple Promise candle, read the verses provided, and sing two hymns.  Getty Kids has fun arrangements of these songs available to sing along with:

Additionally, Seeds Family Worship has a Christmas album that makes memorizing some of the texts you will be reading and reflecting upon easy and fun:

  1. Sometime during the week, have your family read “Mary Gives Birth to the Promised One,” taken from our Big Picture Family Devotional.

  2. Lastly, have your kids make a Christmas paper chain of the names of Jesus mentioned in the devotional readings.

In addition to these devotional times, consider how you as a family can proclaim Jesus as the promised one who came and is coming again. Pray for those in your life who need to hear the good news.

Praying for you all and many blessings in Christ!
